Poverty-strickenn samurai Hanshiro (Ebizo Ichikawa) enters the House of Ii, run by Kageyu (Koji Yakusho), and requests to commit seppuku (suicide by disembowelment) in their courtyard.

Kageyu believes Hanshiro is bluffing and tells the tale of Motome (Eita), a young ronin who last came into the House of Ii and asked for the same thing. To dissuade others from extorting handouts from their group, they called Motome's bluff and forced him to commit seppuku with a dull bamboo sword he carried. Hanshiro undeterred by Kageyu asks for the House’s top samurai to assist him, but they are absent. Hanshiro then makes one last request, setting in motion a showdown driven by revenge ...

[postlink]http://wayangjom.blogspot.com/2011/08/helldriver-japanese.html[/postlink] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCuupnw_EOsendofvid [starttext]An alien-spawned, mysterious mist blankets the northern half of Japan, transforming air-breath human into flesh-eating zombies hell-bent on devouring the surviving human population. Plunged into chaos, Japan is torn in two—the southern half of the country, where the populace remains untouched by the deadly gas, lives behind a heavily-fortified wall, while the northern half is a lawless, zombie-infected wasteland. Political forces are still debating whether the living dead should remain protected as family members or exterminated like a plague. Not an easy issue to be resolved. Hence, the economy withers away, and all hope seems lost for the people and the Japan as a country.

Hope arrives in the form of Kika (Yumiko Hara), a beautiful high school girl armed with a chainsaw sword powered by an artificial heart. Recruited by the officials from government, Kika leads a secret mission joined by some desperate peoples into the zombie-infected wilds to exterminate zombie queen Rikka (Eihi Shiina) and put an end to the plague of the living dead. The battle is difficult since  the zombies are half-human.

A detached employee Yukiyo Fujimoto (Mirai Moriyama) is set to turn 30 years old. He isn't very popular and has zero dating experience. Then one day he experiences "moteki" - a period when one becomes popular - and has women contacting him. With Yukiyo's timid character and bitter experiences can he handle his new found popularity?

The story started off quite fun and interesting but then quickly deteriorated into a boring series of repetitive mistakes and indecision by the lead character - a boy essentially trapped in a 30-yr old body with sexual urges. The manga version would have been more fun but this dramatization became utterly senseless because of its repetitive themes. He's hot for 3 women in the beginning but at the end, he's back at square zero. And I do mean ZERO.
You'd notice that the writer of this drama is also the director and so it just feels coincidental it may have been a biopic of his own wimpy past. Hurray for male wimps! Unite and die!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pQ0wQ_IGMcendofvid [starttext] Nintama Rantarō (忍たま乱太郎). Rantarō the Ninja Boy) is a Japanese anime series based on Sōbē Amako's manga Rakudai Ninja Rantarō. It was produced by Ajia-do Animation Works and originally broadcast on NHK. It is aimed at young children, featuring the adventures of Rantarō and his friends and teachers at Ninja school. The fact that glasses are worn by one of the main characters is intentionally anachronistic. The manga references other Japanese media personalities such as Ken Shimura.

Nintama Rantarou (Ninja Kids) film is about a boy named Rantaro (Seishirô Katô) who comes from a family of bad ninjas and has just been sent off to Ninja school to break the streak of unsuccessful ninjas in the family. The first half of the film shows us what life is like as a first grade ninja, what skills are to be learned and how to apply them to various situations. It introduces us to the school, the other kids, including Rantaro’s friends, the faculty that make up the school, and its ninja school competitors. In the second half, after feuding with another Ninja squad, the Ninja Kids are in charge of saving lives by competing in a race to determine if two specific people live or die.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJPXDW5gDB8endofvid [starttext]
A pair of high school students, Kei Kurono and Masaru Kato, are hit by a subway train in an attempt to save the life of a homeless drunk who had fallen onto the tracks. Following their deaths, Kurono and Kato find themselves transported to the interior of an unfurnished Tokyo apartment. The pair soon realize others are present and find that they are not able to leave the apartment. At one end of the room there is a featureless black sphere known as "Gantz".
After some time in the room, the Gantz sphere opens up, revealing a bald naked man with a breathing mask and wires attached to his head, and three racks protruding from it, that offer various items for them to use. These include the custom fitting black suits Gantz makes for each of them, giving them super-human abilities, a controller which acts as a radar and stealth unit, and three types of guns.

When the Gantz sphere opens, green text appears on its surface, informing those present that their "lives have ended and now belong" to him. A picture and brief information is shown of some of the Gantz Targets, Gantz ordering them to go and kill them. All but one target shown thus far, have been aliens living on Earth, which take on a wide variety of forms. After a period of time which varies between missions, everyone except Gantz are transported to the location of the mission.

Those sent cannot return from the mission until all enemies have been killed, or the time limit has run out. If they survive a successful mission, each individual is awarded points for the aliens they have killed. They are then allowed to leave, and live their lives as they see fit until Gantz summons them back again for the next mission. The only way to stop having to participate in the missions is to earn one hundred points, and choose the option to be freed. Several participants are killed through the third mission they are given, leaving Kurono as the only survivor and the new leader from the "Gantz Team". However, as the series continues, Kurono participates with the objective to revive his deceased friends with the 100 points he can obtain throughout the missions.
After several missions, Gantz's sphere indicates that the human race will be over in a week for an unknown reason, but it also frees all the participants from the game. A week later, a massive alien force invades the Earth and begins exterminating the human race, while Kurono and his companions try their best to make use of Gantz's advanced technology and weaponry in order to take a stand against the alien invasion.
